the {joy} of love : day 2

Day two of my Joy of Love photo challenge. I made it past day one! yay! that’s a pretty big victory for me. :)

So today’s topic of the day is:
How They Look

My son loves to do things that he knows he’s not supposed to do. I’m sure this is typical at almost 17 months old, but i’m convinced he started his terrible twos a couple of months ago. Pushing the boundaries is one of his favorite things ever, he just loves to see what he’ll get away with. But he’s just so funny, its hard to get mad at him. Today I saw him once again playing with something he isn’t supposed to. He sneakily walks over to the computer desk and slowly reaches for the mouse….

The child can NOT resist anything that blinks or lights up or has a button on it. He knows he will get in trouble, but he just can’t help himself, try as he might. okay. well, maybe he doesn’t really try THAT hard…

The look of complete surprise and innocence on his face at the realization that he has been caught doing something naughty is just priceless. He quickly tries to put it back where he found it, hoping that maybe I didn’t see. And when I sternly say “JackSONNN…” (we use his full name when he’s in trouble… It’s seriously the whole reason I named him Jackson instead of just Jack) he looks at me wide-eyed and finishes my sentence: “What’d I say?!?” And then I have to try not to crack up. the kid is hilarious. Love that face.

the {joy} of love.

Well it’s february everyone, and you know what that means! The month of LOVE. I decided to participate in Kelly Willette’s photo challenge “The Joy of Love”, hoping to get my butt in gear and take some more photos! The idea is that you choose someone you love, and take photographs each day based on the prompts/themes she sends out.

The Theme for Day 1 is: What They Do.

Today is a perfect day to start this project, as I’m pretty sure everyone in our whole state has a snow day. So I grabbed my camera and followed my favorite little dude around after he woke up for the day. At 16 months its safe to say that what he does is PLAY! His most favorite thing EVER is the book Goodnight Moon (or, as he calls it “Da Moooo”). So much so that poor little Goodnight Moon has already had to undergo several rounds of glue & tape to keep him from completely falling apart. I’ve seriously read the book at least 15 times today. He also loves his toolbench…there’s lots of work to be done and lots of things to fix when you are 16 months old, you know. :)

I think this is going to be a fun month. I’m excited to document more of the everyday things that I don’t necessarily think to photograph, but I know one day i’ll be so glad I did. Enjoy.

elise : 18 months

Today i did my first photo session since the fall. it felt good to do it again, i didnt realize how much i missed it. Elise is such a joy to photograph. I mean, look at those blue eyes! and the pigtails. oh, the pigtails. She is only two months older than my son, but somehow she is sooooo much easier to photograph. i guess because she sits still for a few seconds here and there. sometimes. ;) Elise’s mother and I have known each other since we were little ones ourselves, so it seems crazy that now i’m photographing *her* little one. time flies! We headed to the butterfly house today, how nice to see leaves and flowers and green things! it was only about 900 degrees in there, but worth it. We also took advantage of the 8 million inches of snow we got here recently and did a few shots outside, which i am in lovvvvvvvvvvvvvve with. Seriously, how cute is that furry hooded cape??

because i know you all want to buy me presents...

My birthday is fast approaching and I have had a few dear friends ask me what i would like to commemorate my 28th year. So i thought i would compile a little birthday wishlist…or, more likely, a collection of things i fell in love with that i can gradually check off as *I* buy them. (sorry kris).  :)

So there you have it. A few of my current favorite things.

I seriously can’t believe how fast this year is going! I hope you all are gearing up for a great holiday!

lindsay & erik engaged

Yesterday I had the privilage of doing an engagement session for two of my very best friends. It was so much fun to work with people that I am close with, and I was soooo very happy that they let me capture their engagement. These two have the kind of relationship that you only see in the movies. Lindsay has been head over heels for Erik since she was 11 years old. And over 5 years of being together, and they still act like they are on their first date. Love them so.

My love of the arts has been evolving since I was two years old when my grandmother taught me how to draw a simple little face. What began as crayons and finger paint eventually grew into pencils, charcoal, oil paints and Photoshop. I've always known I was going to be an artist. There was never anything else I wanted to do. I am very passionate about my work, and totally, completely, wholeheartedly in love with what I do. Thanks so much for stopping by, I hope you enjoy my work as much as I enjoyed creating it!
